So, you want to learn Japanese. Japanese is a beautiful but complex language, so many people seek to master it for various reasons. I studied Japanese for around a year, so I'd like to recommend, for aaaall those trying to learn this challenging language, 4 useful and smart apps that I used for learning Japanese!
I will post more tips and tricks for learning Japanese, so there's more posts to come!
1. Hiragana and Katakana
This is a free app with many different
functions to learn Hiragana & Katakana, two of the three writing systems in Japan, from Study Cards to Lessons
to Quizzes (that you can customize). It is a very simple yet useful app if you don't want to
spend money learning.
2. Midori
This app costs money, but I think it is worth it since you get a
whole and pretty detailed Japanese dictionary. But it also has other things
like translation, lists & bookmarks and more. Another very efficient feature is that, if you don't know the character, you can draw it with your finger and several search results and meanings will pop up based on what the app thought you wanted to write. It helped me a lot to practice writing Japanese properly!
3. Innovative 101 Learn Languages
A free app where you can learn many languages, not just Japanese.
It is a wonderful app for learning Japanese; there's so much to do. You
can listen to podcasts, get practice sheets, watch thousands of
lessons... the app also has a website. If it's Japanese you want to
learn, their website is called "Japanesepod101.com". Both the app and
the website are free to use, but if you want to unlock most of the
features, you have to pay an amount of money.
4. Tae Kim's Guide to Learning Japanese
Tae Kim's Guide to
Learning Japanese is collection of Tae Kim's online grammar guide,
smoothed into a user-friendly app. The application is set up like a
book, and is exactly as the title reads: a guide. The guide is written
for any learner who wants to learn, review or increase their grammar and
vocabulary. If I'm not mistaken, he should also have a free website you
can look up and read instead of using the app, but they're both free so
it doesn't really matter; just a preference.
