Meteor Garden

Meteor Garden is a 2018 C-Drama (Chinese Drama) with 49 episodes, each episode being around 45 minutes long. It is an Original Netflix Series and a remake of the Taiwanese series from 2001 with the same name. This C-drama is based on the successful Japanese shoujo-manga Boys Over Flowers, written by Yoko Kamio.

The story follows Dong Shancai, an adolescent girl living a completely ordinary life in Shanghai, with ordinary background, family, friends and skills. After working hard for it, she gains a place at Mingde University, her dream university that only accepts top elite students, but it proves to be a real challenge very quickly for Shancai as she meets F4, a famous group in the school consisting of the four most talented, most wealthy and most handsome young men; Daoming Si, Huaze Lei, Ximen and Meizuo. Shancai grows tired of them, especially Daoming Si, who is an arrogant and narcissistic snob, and decides to take action, which piques F4's interest in the normal girl... Daoming Si and Huaze Lei being the two F4 members who takes interest in Shancai the most. She begins hanging out with the boys and notices that everyone has feelings they're hiding from each other, including herself... How will this complicated love triangle ever end?

Meteor Garden has been heavily praised and admired by many people, and they have a huge fanbase who supports the series with all of their hearts, so I decided "why not watch it from beginning to end to see what it's all about?". I obviously had high expectations when I stumbled upon this so I went in with a lot of hope. Now... the question is, did it live up to the expectations?

No, it did not.
I'll admit that there were episodes were I had that feeling of "ooh, I need to see what happens next!", but there were much more episodes where I felt like I honestly kept losing interest because of something. Too cheesy, too dramatic, too dreamlike... There was always a problem for me. I thought the humor and effects, editing and acting was pretty bad too, which was mostly what ruined it for me. I can't say I was really satisfied with the ending either. I may come across as harsh but I'm not going to lie on a review ofcourse. Honesty is something I value, no matter how much it can sting. Anyways, my overall rating would have to be a very weak 5/10, and I would not recommend people to watch Meteor Garden. But who knows, maybe the 2001 one or Boys Over Flowers is better? Check those out if you're curious enough, despite my critiques. I hope you'll enjoy it more than me!

80's J-Pop: Miki Matsubara

Album cover for Miki Matsubara's "Stay With Me". Miki Matsubara , or Suzie Matsubara [as she also went by], was a composer, lyricist and singer from Japan. She was known for her 80's J-Pop love songs, but really became famous after her debut single, " Stay With Me ", was released in November 1979. I'm sure many of you have heard this song, and I'm a fan of this talented woman myself, thus I decided to write about her. Early Life Miki Matsubara was born 28th of November 1959 in Osaka ( Kishiwada ), Japan. She grew up with a father, mother and younger sister in Hiraoka Town . Miki quickly became familiar with jazz music, as her mother was a jazz singer. She started playing piano at an outstandingly young age of 3 and simply embraced music in general, not only jazz but also rock. She went to ordinary schools her whole childhood and was praised as being a great and hardworking student who would enroll into university, but Miki had already dreams of beco...

The Black-Haired Woman: Chiyuki

For this Character of the Week , I chose my favourite female protagonist ever. However, there will be heavy spoilers in this one, so beware if you have not seen the anime Death Parade yet! Her name in the anime is never revealed until the very end, and she has black hair with a tiny white strand on the right side, so she has always been known as The Black-Haired Woman (or, in Japanese, 黒髪の女 [Kurokami no Onna]). To fans, she is sometimes referred to as Onna , which means "woman" in Japanese. Her real name is Chiyuki , though her surname is unknown. The series followed Decim , the main character and the bartender of Quindecim , but the way Decim judges souls changes completely and the story makes a turn when the mysterious woman shows up at the bar. As she has no idea how or why she came there, she became Decim´s assistant at the bar and started helping him with the lost souls that comes frequently to the place, just like the black-haired woman. When you die, you arriv...
