Violet Evergarden

I wanted to discuss the anime Violet Evergarden for a minute because it is the latest anime I've watched but it has already earned a Top 3 spot in the list of my favourite animes of all time. Why and how? Well, let me tell you everything about this beautiful anime (with no spoilers ofcourse)!

Violet Evergarden is a 13-episodes-long anime adaption from early 2018 by Kyoto Animation, based off of the light novel series [with the same name] that was written by Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase.

The story follows an orphan who was brought up on the battlefield; a very young and talented female soldier with no individual emotions or actions. She was simply named "the weapon", only made to fight. Though, Officer Gilbert Bougainvillea is the only one who sees her as a person and not a tool. He takes her under his care, names her Violet and truly watches over her, trying to give her the life she was missing, letting her grow up as normally as she can (under the circumstances that it is war), teaching her things and letting her try to learn how to feel. During the war that has raged itself upon their world, Violet makes it out of the warzone, but Gilbert does not. His last words to Violet were "I love you". "What does 'I love you' mean?", she wonders and wonders but cannot understand. So, after the war, she gets recruited by a former Officer into his company called CH Postal Company and becomes an Auto Memory Doll, someone who write letters for others that has difficulty expressing themselves, in order for Violet to learn her purpose in life and the unknown emotion "love".

Kyoto Animation are known for their breathtaking artworks, and let me tell you; this was the most beautiful-looking anime I have ever seen! I could barely find any faults whatsoever with either the stunning art, the interesting characters or the unique storyline. Everything flowed very smoothly from beginning to end and whenever I finished an episode, I would finish it in tears and excitement for the next episode! Even the OP, with True's emotional song Sincerely, made me all soft from the get-go.
This is an anime I would recommend to anyone out there because there is no way I'm going to let people be unaware that such an anime like Violet Evergarden exists. If I were to give this anime an overall rating, I would say 9,5/10 is the perfect score. Many people, including myself, can relate one way or another to either the charecters or the story, and that's mostly what really moved so many hearts. There was a time in my life when I didn't know what love was either, just like Violet, so seeing her go through an incredible journey to find out risky answers with the help of motivation and drive to guide her down the right path... that's what moved me the most, and I'm so proud of Violet Evergarden for being the brave little lady that she is. Sigh... times like these are when I wish the most that fictional people existed in our world...

Actually, besides the light novel and anime, there also exists two movies: One released in 2019 and one that was just released last month this year. You bet I'm going to watch both of them, and I'm going to give reviews about the movies too! I have high expectations, as I've heard they're great, so I'm so excited to see what the fuss is all about. Expect more mentions of Violet Evergarden from me in the future.

Have you seen this anime or are you planning on watching it? If so, tell me your opinions and what you would rate it! I'd be happy to hear different thoughts and perspectives!

80's J-Pop: Miki Matsubara

Album cover for Miki Matsubara's "Stay With Me". Miki Matsubara , or Suzie Matsubara [as she also went by], was a composer, lyricist and singer from Japan. She was known for her 80's J-Pop love songs, but really became famous after her debut single, " Stay With Me ", was released in November 1979. I'm sure many of you have heard this song, and I'm a fan of this talented woman myself, thus I decided to write about her. Early Life Miki Matsubara was born 28th of November 1959 in Osaka ( Kishiwada ), Japan. She grew up with a father, mother and younger sister in Hiraoka Town . Miki quickly became familiar with jazz music, as her mother was a jazz singer. She started playing piano at an outstandingly young age of 3 and simply embraced music in general, not only jazz but also rock. She went to ordinary schools her whole childhood and was praised as being a great and hardworking student who would enroll into university, but Miki had already dreams of beco...

The Black-Haired Woman: Chiyuki

For this Character of the Week , I chose my favourite female protagonist ever. However, there will be heavy spoilers in this one, so beware if you have not seen the anime Death Parade yet! Her name in the anime is never revealed until the very end, and she has black hair with a tiny white strand on the right side, so she has always been known as The Black-Haired Woman (or, in Japanese, 黒髪の女 [Kurokami no Onna]). To fans, she is sometimes referred to as Onna , which means "woman" in Japanese. Her real name is Chiyuki , though her surname is unknown. The series followed Decim , the main character and the bartender of Quindecim , but the way Decim judges souls changes completely and the story makes a turn when the mysterious woman shows up at the bar. As she has no idea how or why she came there, she became Decim´s assistant at the bar and started helping him with the lost souls that comes frequently to the place, just like the black-haired woman. When you die, you arriv...
