Kiss Him, Not Me!, known in Japan as Watashi ga Motete Dousunda, is a Romance, Comedy & Shoujo 14-volumes-long manga series written and illustrated by Junko, published by Kodansha year 2013. The manga also won "Best Shoujo Manga" at the 40th Kodansha Manga Awards. It got its own anime adaption in 2016, airing between October 6th and December 22nd, with 12 episodes.
"Kae Serinuma is a second year high schooler and an avid fujoshi who secretly ships her classmates, Igarashi-kun and Nanashima-kun. The death of her favorite anime character causes her to become stressed and locking herself in her own room for a whole week - and she loses weight rapidly. Now that Serinuma has become an attractive girl to her classmates, her snarky kouhai Shinomiya-kun, and her senpai Mutsumi, how is she going to deal with them ...with her constant BL-filled, fujoshi mind?!"
Kae Serinuma is the main protagonist of the series; a 2nd-year student who is a full-fledged otaku and fujoshi.
Personality-wise, Kae, as stated by herself, is quite easy to figure out. She is very carefree and prefers to go with the flow of things, not minding the small details. Whenever this part of Kae emerges, flowers tend to accompany her speech bubbles as a way to emphasize her being an air-head. The only time where Kae is extremely fired up is when anime/manga or yaoi is involved. In those moments, Kae takes on many of her pre-weight loss traits, such as small eyes, heavy sweating, and the occasional sly smile. Depending on her dedication and the situation relative to her "otaku-level", Kae can accomplish several extraordinary feats, such as helping the girls' soccer team win despite never having played soccer, and completing three cosplay ensembles from scratch for a school festival. Her other most notable feature is her kindness, but due to her Fujoshi-personality and previously unattractive status, Kae is also very oblivious and awkward when it comes to romance.
Kae's sexuality isn't entirely discussed, but when she finds out that the five suitors like her, she takes them all seriously and shows interest in all of them. This is including Nishina, who is a girl.
Appearance-wise, Kae was first shown to have small eyes that were covered by her over-sized, circular glasses and dark hair that ended just a few inches below her shoulders which she often put into low pigtails. Her most noticeable feature at that time was her overweight body. Unlike other girls and her best friend, Kae had a rather rounded figure. However, after the death of her favorite anime character, Kae shut herself in her room for days and refused to come out, not even to eat. Because of this, she lost a lot of weight. Kae gains an eye-catching figure and is shown to have notably large breasts, which seemed to have come from when she was chubbier. She starts wearing her hair down and her blue-green eyes are revealed when she stops wearing her glasses. This results in her becoming extremely beautiful. Surprisingly, Kae seems to have a good fashion sense, often wearing cute and fashionable clothes whenever she is out.
I have to say, this short anime is gold, especially the first episode! It really draws you in quickly. And, this might be a bit embarrassing to admit but this anime sort of inspired me to try to lose weight... haha. Animes influence me A LOT so ofcourse this anime gave me some motivation. That is not neccessarily a bad thing though! Losing weight is very healthy indeed, so I am okay with it. Anyhow, I strongly recommend Kiss Him, Not Me! to everyone out there; girls, guys, old, young... everyone! It is such a funny and nice anime to watch.
