Darker Than BLACK: Yin

This Character of the Week is none other than the innocent Yin from the successful anime & manga series Darker than BLACK, a 25-episode-long Sci-Fi, Action, Fantasy that aired from April 5th 2007 to December 24th 2009. I am going to try my best not to spoil anything so this post might be a bit shorter than usual; sorry!

"It has been 10 years since Heaven's Gate appeared in South America and Hell's Gate appeared in Japan, veiling the once familiar night sky with an oppressive skyscape. Their purposes unknown, these Gates are spaces in which the very laws of physics are ignored. With the appearance of the Gates emerged Contractors, who, in exchange for their humanity, are granted supernatural abilities.

In the Japanese city surrounding Hell’s Gate, Section 4 Chief Misaki Kirihara finds herself at odds with an infamous Contractor codenamed Hei. Called "Black Reaper" in the underground world, Hei, like his associates, undertakes missions for the mysterious and ruthless Syndicate while slowly peeling back the dark layers covering a nefarious plot that threatens the very existence of Contractors.

From the mind of Tensai Okamura comes a sci-fi thriller taking the form of a subtle exposé on a war in which political positions and justice have no sway - a war waged exclusively in the shadows."

Yin is one of the main protagonists in the DTB series. She is basically a blind teenage doll who supports Hei's (Hei, the main character) Syndicate team. Little, if anything, is known about her transformation into the medium known as a "Doll". At first, Yin was portrayed a doll unable to show any emotion. However, during the course of the series, Yin begins to display emotions and her own will. In the process, her observation specter evolved or upgraded, now having a human-like body shaped with her silhouette and is capable of physical touch. Although Yin is emotionless, she possesses a deep connection to Hei to the point of falling in love with him.

When I first watched Darker than BLACK, everything was very confusing for me, like the plot and characters. I did not quite get it, so I quit watching it fairly early on Season 1. That is why I have so little information this time on the anime and character... But, Yin was introduced in the first episode, and I fell for her as soon as I saw her; she is so adorable and cute! She might have a tragic background (that I cannot talk about since I would spoil then) but she evolves throughout the series and becomes more and more human-like, which is nice to see. Now that I am writing about Yin, I actually do get somewhat tempted to maybe watch the series from beginning to ending this time... It's not that I thought it was a bad anime, it was just the problem with me that I get confused easily, and so the anime was too complex for me at the time, but I might understand it better if I watch it today. I'll have to think about rewatching it.

What about you? Are you planning to watch Darker than BLACK? If you've already seen it; please share your opinion on it in the comments!

Bongcheon Dong Ghost

Bongcheon-Dong Ghost is a short, South Korean horror webtoon (a type of digital comic) created by Horang August 23rd 2011. In July 2011, artist Horang published the short webtoon " Ok-su Station Ghost " on Naver Webtoon (a webtoon portal). This webtoon included 3D-like effects, including in a scene in which a ghost´s hand appears to jump out of the screen as if to grab the viewer. Horang followed this webcomic up with "Bongcheon-Dong Ghost" later that month. An English fan translation and video dub were created in August, as the webcomic quickly went viral internationally. Some people also recorded themselves reading the story and putting it up on YouTube for people to see their reactions. If you are too scared to read the story on your own, I recommend searching up PewDiePie's video of reading Bongcheon Dong Ghost. SPOILER. Set in Bongcheon-dong, Seoul, the webcomic shows a student walking home from school late at night meeting a female ghost who wa

80's J-Pop: Miki Matsubara

Album cover for Miki Matsubara's "Stay With Me". Miki Matsubara , or Suzie Matsubara [as she also went by], was a composer, lyricist and singer from Japan. She was known for her 80's J-Pop love songs, but really became famous after her debut single, " Stay With Me ", was released in November 1979. I'm sure many of you have heard this song, and I'm a fan of this talented woman myself, thus I decided to write about her. Early Life Miki Matsubara was born 28th of November 1959 in Osaka ( Kishiwada ), Japan. She grew up with a father, mother and younger sister in Hiraoka Town . Miki quickly became familiar with jazz music, as her mother was a jazz singer. She started playing piano at an outstandingly young age of 3 and simply embraced music in general, not only jazz but also rock. She went to ordinary schools her whole childhood and was praised as being a great and hardworking student who would enroll into university, but Miki had already dreams of beco
