Plastic Memories - Isla

Plastic Memories (in Japanese, プラスティック・メモリーズ), also known as Pla-Memo (in Japanese, プラメモ), is a short Romance-Sci-Fi-Drama anime series with 13 episodes, produced by Doga Kobo. The story is set by Naotaka Hayashi, who in turn also wrote the script with original character design by Okiura. The series was originally broadcast in Japan between April 5th and June 28th 2015.

"This story takes place in a future not too far away when androids that look exactly like humans begin to spread across the world. The android production company SAI Corp. produce Giftia, a type of android that has the emotion and human-like qualities out of any other model ever seen. However, due to problems in technology, the androids have limited service years, and once they pass that, they will deteriorate and turn into wanderers. Wanderers have no control over their functions and could endanger the public if not collected on time. For this reason, SAI Corp. creates a terminal service in order to retrieve Giftia that have gone past their service life. A new employee at the terminal service named "Tsukasa Mizugaki" forms a team with a Giftia named "Isla" to retrieve the other androids, but..."

So, Isla is one of the main characters of Plastic Memories. Isla is a Giftia who was said to be the top Giftia marksman of the Terminal Service 1. She was previously partnered with a woman called Kazuki Kuwanomi. After her partnership with Kazuki was dissolved, she became the partner of the young man Tsukasa Mizugaki.

Personality-wise, Isla was introduced as showing almost no emotion, but has since developed more. She is very innocent, and often has difficulty understanding how social situations should work. When it comes to Tsukasa, Isla becomes jealous easily and is eager to be impressive and useful to him. Isla also cares deeply about the feelings of others. Appearance-wise, Isla is usually seen having long, silver pigtails. She has red eyes and usually wears a white uniform that lays above her knees. She is one of the shortest characters in the series. Isla wears white boots that matches her uniform. Her height is 160 cm and her weight is 48 kg.

I simply love her personality, appearance, and mostly, her character development throughout the 13 episodes. So much happens to Isla and her life completely takes a turn when this Tsukasa comes in at the company, for the positive and for the worse, you could say. I loved the tragic love story, I always found it beautiful how a human can truly fall inlove with something non-human, both in fiction and in real life. So I shed a lot of tears while watching the anime, haha, but I enjoyed those tears. It certainly is an anime worth crying for and I would love to rewatch it, just for the sake of more tears (what can I say, I love crying)!

80's J-Pop: Miki Matsubara

Album cover for Miki Matsubara's "Stay With Me". Miki Matsubara , or Suzie Matsubara [as she also went by], was a composer, lyricist and singer from Japan. She was known for her 80's J-Pop love songs, but really became famous after her debut single, " Stay With Me ", was released in November 1979. I'm sure many of you have heard this song, and I'm a fan of this talented woman myself, thus I decided to write about her. Early Life Miki Matsubara was born 28th of November 1959 in Osaka ( Kishiwada ), Japan. She grew up with a father, mother and younger sister in Hiraoka Town . Miki quickly became familiar with jazz music, as her mother was a jazz singer. She started playing piano at an outstandingly young age of 3 and simply embraced music in general, not only jazz but also rock. She went to ordinary schools her whole childhood and was praised as being a great and hardworking student who would enroll into university, but Miki had already dreams of beco...

The Black-Haired Woman: Chiyuki

For this Character of the Week , I chose my favourite female protagonist ever. However, there will be heavy spoilers in this one, so beware if you have not seen the anime Death Parade yet! Her name in the anime is never revealed until the very end, and she has black hair with a tiny white strand on the right side, so she has always been known as The Black-Haired Woman (or, in Japanese, 黒髪の女 [Kurokami no Onna]). To fans, she is sometimes referred to as Onna , which means "woman" in Japanese. Her real name is Chiyuki , though her surname is unknown. The series followed Decim , the main character and the bartender of Quindecim , but the way Decim judges souls changes completely and the story makes a turn when the mysterious woman shows up at the bar. As she has no idea how or why she came there, she became Decim´s assistant at the bar and started helping him with the lost souls that comes frequently to the place, just like the black-haired woman. When you die, you arriv...
