Who's That Pokémon?: Aggron

Who's That Pokémon? It is Aggron ! Aggron is a dual-type Steel- and Rock type of Pokémon. It is also known as the Iron Armor Pokémon, as its body has plates that resembles plates of silver armor with a sort of helmet on its head with sharp horns sticking out. Aggron is an Evulotion from Aron and Lairon, but you can go even further and Mega Evolve Aggron into Mega Aggron, who is over 2 meters tall and weighs almost 400 kg! Aggron defends its mountains to every cost, as it sees the mountain as its own little territory. After a natural disaster, this Pokémon works effortlessly and tiredlessly, trying to restore its dear mountain by building up the earth anew and planting trees. This Pokémon has been in the Poké-series since Generation III. It's mostly a defensive creature to battle with, as almost every stat except Defense are pretty standard, or at the peak of being lower than average. It is Immune to Poison-Types and, surprisingly enough, Resistent to a lot of Types; Normal-, F...

Superstitions in Japan

In Japan, many things are considered to bring good or bad luck. Superstitions are strongly entrenched in Japanese society, and some of them are meant to teach lessons or serve as practical advice. Here is a list of 6 superstitions in Japan you must know! Do you believe in superstitions such as these? 1) Numbers 4 and 9 are considered to be unlucky numbers because 4 in Japanese is sometimes pronounced as "shi", which means "death", while 9 is sometimes pronounced "ku", which means "suffering". In the US, some old buildings do not have a 13th floor, while in Japan, hospitals and hotels don't have a 4th floor. 2) Something related to night, is that you shouldn't cut your nails at night. Because if you do that, you won't be able to be with your parents when they die. One of the main reasons would be that cutting your nails at night may result in your death, so you won't be able to see your parents die. 3) Speaking of ...

Okinawa

The Ryukyu islands (or, in Japan, called the Nansei islands) are islands located in East China Sea, northwest to Pacific Ocean. These islands belong to Japan, and today I wanted to talk a bit about the biggest island, Okinawa . First, information and history. This prefecture has over 160 islands with a population of over 1,432,000 people in total. Though, Okinawa was not originally part of Japan; it used to be an independent kingdom and tributary state to China. They were only made to be a Japanese Prefecture in 1879. During World War II, the U.S attacked the islands of Okinawa, thus, they were also under USA's administration until 1972. That being said, Okinawa has now an unique culture, influenced by Japanese, Chinese and the United States. But despite being a part of Japan today, Okinawa has their own charm, which makes it so interesting. In general, there are many things about Okinawa that makes it so special, and many things to do/visit. The island of Okinawa is ...

Ouran High School Host Club: Tamaki Suoh

"Haruhi Fujioka is a bright scholarship candidate with no rank or title to speak of - a rare species at Ouran High School, an elite academy for students of high pedigree. When she opens the door to Music Room #3 hoping to find a quiet place to study, Haruhi unexpectedly stumbles upon the Host Club. Led by the princely Tamaki, the club - whose other members include the "Shadow King" Kyouya, the mischievous Hitachiin twins, and the childlike Haninozuka "Honey" and his strong protector Mori - is where handsome boys with too much time on their hands entertain the girls in the academy. In a frantic attempt to remove herself from the hosts, Haruhi ends up breaking a vase worth eight million yen and is forced into becoming the eccentric group's general errand boy to repay her enormous debt. However, thanks to her convincingly masculine appearance, her naturally genial disposition toward girls, and fascinating commoner status, she is soon promoted to ...

Who's That Pokémon?: Aerodactyl

Who's that Pokémon? It is Aerodactyl ! Aerodactyl is a Rock- and Flying Type Pokémon, and oddly enough, it is Weak against its own type; it is weak against Rock-, Water-, Steel-, Ice- and Electric types of Pokémon. This savage Pokémon died out in the ancient dinosaur times, but was resurrected with the help of DNA from amber. It is said that it ruled over the skies in its own, old world. Aerodactyl has existed since Generation I, and has stayed throughout the Pokémon series of games/anime/manga ever since. Its apperance is similar to our Pterodactyl, though Aerodactyl's body is of a purple-gray hue and its large wings are purple as well. You may think that this Pokémon does not have any evolutions, but it actually has a Mega Evulotion! Mega Aerodactyl is about 2,1 meters tall and weighs 79 kg. The catch is that this is an evolution that's incredibly difficult to get, but if you manage to make it evolve, it will become unstoppable and stronger than ever before! The moves th...

Love is Like a Cocktail

Love is Like a Cocktail , or Osake wa Fufu ni Natte kara in Japanese, is a short manga series with 11 volumes written and illustrated by Crystal na Yosuke . The first manga volume was announced 2015, so as you can guess, it is a finished series, but I've been dying to watch the anime as soon as I heard they made an anime adaption of the webmanga in 2017! Even though it is labelled as a Romance, I would call it more of a kind of Comedy-Slice of Life. "Quiet but capable, Mizusawa Chisoto is a beautiful leader at work who has a secret at home that only her husband, Sora, knows about: She loves to drink alcohol, and when she does, she becomes extremely adorable! What bliss will Sora's cocktail bring tonight? "Yoidere", the drunken comedy cocktail about Japan's most lovey-dovey couple." I must say that I love this anime! I was fine with it being short and every episodes only 3 minutes long; it has its own charm and there is no need to drag out things that wa...

J-Pop: E-girls

E-girls , which stands for Exile Girls, was an all female Japanese girl group formed by the agency LDH and signed on the music label rhythm zone. Their genre was J-pop and electronic dance-music, and they were active from April 24th 2011 to December 31st 2020. There are too many members to individually go through all of them, but almost all girls came from diverse pop-groups such as Dream , Happiness , Flower and EGD (stands for EXPG Girls Dancer). Members have come and gone, but as of 2017, there were 11 members; SAYAKA, Kaede, Fujii Karen, YURINO, Suda Anna, Washio Reina, Bando Nozomi, Sato Harumi, Ishii Anna, Yamaguchi Nonoka and Takebe Yuzuna. Created as a sister act to the boy band EXILE , E-girls debuted in 2011 with their single " Celebration ". Following their formation, E-girls consisted of 21 members. On 28 December 2011, the group premiered Celebration , which peaked inside the Top 10 on the Oricon Singles Chart , the Japanese music industry standard sin...

Darker Than BLACK: Yin

This Character of the Week is none other than the innocent Yin from the successful anime & manga series Darker than BLACK , a 25-episode-long Sci-Fi, Action, Fantasy that aired from April 5th 2007 to December 24th 2009. I am going to try my best not to spoil anything so this post might be a bit shorter than usual; sorry! "It has been 10 years since Heaven's Gate appeared in South America and Hell's Gate appeared in Japan, veiling the once familiar night sky with an oppressive skyscape. Their purposes unknown, these Gates are spaces in which the very laws of physics are ignored. With the appearance of the Gates emerged Contractors, who, in exchange for their humanity, are granted supernatural abilities. In the Japanese city surrounding Hell’s Gate, Section 4 Chief Misaki Kirihara finds herself at odds with an infamous Contractor codenamed Hei. Called "Black Reaper" in the underground world, Hei, like his associates, undertakes missions for the my...

Who's That Pokémon?: Accelgor

Who's That Pokémon? It is Accelgor ! Accelgor is a Bug-type Pokémon known as the "Shell Out Pokémon", and is the evulotion of Shelmet. How you get Shelmet to evolve into Accelgor is by trading or simply catching it in the wild. You can find it in, for example, Kalos (in the mountains) and Unova. It was unavailable prior to Generation V though. When Accelgor comes out of its shell, it is very fast and moves in the same speed as a ninja. It goes back in its shell to avoid dehydration. Accelgor is not immune to any Type, but is Resistant to Fighting-, Ground- and Grasstypes. Weak against Flying-, Rock- and Firetypes. All moves that Accelgor can learn is Final Gambit, Power Swap, Leech Life, Acid Spray, Double Team, Quick Attack, Struggle Bug, Mega Drain, Swift, Me First, Agility, Giga Drain, U-turn, Bug Buzz and Recover. I rarely use Bug-type Pokémon, and I've actually never used Accelgor, so I cannot say whether it is a "good or bad" Pokémon. Considering its ...

Diabolik Lovers

"At the behest of her father, Yui Komori goes to live in a secluded mansion, home to the six Sakamaki brothers—Shuu, Reiji, Ayato, Kanato, Raito, and Subaru—a family of vampires. Though at first the siblings are confused as to why the girl has arrived, they soon realize that she is to be their new "sacrificial bride," not to mention their other, more carnal intentions for her. After meeting the brothers, Yui quickly begins to question why her father would have sent her here and why she feels a strange, new pain in her chest. With each brother more sadistic than the last, Yui's life as a captive takes a harrowing turn in her new home. As her days turn into endless nights, and each brother vows to make her his own, Yui falls deeper and deeper into madness and ecstasy." A description of the short anime Diabolik Lovers. Sounds interesting, does it not? Something that's perfect for people who fancy shorter series or vampires... But it is far from perfect...

Top 6 Famous Korean Food

I have already made a very similar blog post to this called the same, except it was about Japanese food.  But I just got this sudden urge today to learn more about South Korea and their food, and hopefully you, the readers, will learn something new or maybe even try one of these famous dishes! Perhaps you have tried some of these? Whether you have or not, why not tell me which dish sounds like the most delicious one? 1) First up is obviously Kimchi . Maybe you have already heard about it; Kimchi is basically a traditional Korean fermented dish that is often based on china cabbage. Kimchi can also refer to vegetable plates that are not fermented though. There are hundreds of different variations of the dish. Kimchi is Korea´s national dish. 2) Tteokbokki . Tteokbokki is a popular spicy Korean flavor/small dish. Tteokbokki is made of tteok (hence the part of the name), meat, vegetables, eggs and the spice gochujang in water. All in all, a spicy rice cake. 3) Hotteok . Ho...

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Edward Elric

""In order for something to be obtained, something of equal value must be lost." Alchemy is bound by this Law of Equivalent Exchange - something the young brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric only realize after attempting human transmutation: the one forbidden act of alchemy. They pay a terrible price for their transgression - Edward loses his left leg, Alphonse his physical body. It is only by the desperate sacrifice of Edward´s right arm that he is able to affix Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor. Devastated and alone, it is the hope that they would both eventually return to their original bodies that gives Edward the inspiration to obtain metal limbs called "automail" and become a state alchemist, the Fullmetal Alchemist. Three years of searching later, the brothers seek the Philosopher's Stone, a mythical relic that allows an alchemist to overcome the Law of Equivalent Exchange. Even with military allies Colonel Roy Mustang, Lieutenant R...

Who's That Pokémon?: Absol

Who's that Pokémon? It is Absol ! Absol is a Dark-type Pokémon, with immunity against Psychic-Types and resistancy against Ghost- and other Dark-types. This Pokémon's usual description is that it does not often show itself to people and many mistake it for not being friendly. It is also known as the disaster Pokémon. For example, Ash was at first led to believe that Absol was evil, which is not true. You may have to be observant when approaching this Pokémon but it actually is always prepared to leave its home in the mountains to warn others for upcoming danger, showing dedication to every creature. Absol is a 1,2 meters tall & 47 kg weighing Pokémon, though that can change slightly when it evolves. It has one single evolution and it is a Mega Evolution. If you were to compare the differences in appearance on Absol and Mega Absol is that they look fairly similar, a fluffy and white body with ebony colours on its claws, face and tail, but a significant change in looks is th...

Yuri Romance "Citrus"

--- "Fashionable Yuzu imagined the first day at her new school she transferred to after her mother’s remarriage a bit differently; she didn’t know it’d be an ultra-strict and conservative girls’ school. So instead of a sweet high-school romance, she butts heads with the stern student council president Mei—who turns out to be her new step sister. And she has to learn that hate and attraction are often not that far apart.” --- Does it sound interesting so far? Well, this is the plot summary for "Citrus", an Anime/Manga series focusing on Yuri, Romance & School, written and illustrated by Saburouta. The manga was actually first released November 17th 2012, while the first episode of the anime was released January 6th 2018. I like both the genres, Romance and Yuri, so I wanted to give both the anime and manga a try. After watching the first episode and reading the first volume, I was already into it. I really like the style of the anime and manga, it is nice, ...

How to Start Thinking in Japanese

Learn 4 tools and techniques to stop translating in your head and start thinking in Japanese! Going through Japanese lessons is enough to get by and learn the basics of Japanese, but to truly become fluent you need to be able to think in Japanese. This will allow you to have conversations with ease, read smoothly and comprehensively understand natives. To do this, you need to go beyond just completing daily or weekly lessons. We naturally translate in our heads because it's viewed as the easiest way to learn the definitions needed when learning a language. This way of learning can actually hinder your skills and fluency later on. If your brain has to make neural connections between the word you're learning, what it means in your native tongue, and the physical object the connection will not be nearly as strong. When you bypass the original translation between Japanese and your native language then there is a more basic and strong connection between just the Japanes...

Corpse Party & Sachiko Shinozaki

Before starting with the Character of the Week, I would like to give background because I absolutely LOVE Corpse Party. It is so unique and, when I discovered it, unlike anything I had seen before! So, what is it? Corpse Party (in Japanese, コープスパーティー Kōpusu Pātī ) is a series of several things; Video games, anime OVA, manga works, drama CDs and live action films. I cannot go over every part of CP, that would be way too long of a blog post so I´ll be mostly talking about the games. This is the history & what it says on the official Fandom Wiki: "On April 22nd 1996, an adventure game called CORPSE-PARTY was published in the Spring 1996 edition of LOGIN Sofcom No.6 . It was made by a 22-year-old college student by the name of Makoto Kedouin , who typically stylizes his surname as Kedwin. On February 26th 1997, Kedwin won the grand prize in the Second Annual ASCII ENTERTAINMENT competition, netting him 5 million yen. It´d be nine years before the world saw Corpse Part...

Who's That Pokémon?: Abra

Who's That Pokémon? It is Abra ! Abra (named " Casey " in Japanese) is a Psychic-type Pokémon, and it sure is a fickle one that loves to flee by using the move Teleport! Even when an Abra is sleeping, which it does most of the time (18 hours per day!), it can effortlessly avoid an enemy by teleporting itself away. Its powers weakens if it does not get enough sleep. As you can see from the picture above, Abra is primarily a yellow Pokémon, with some brown colours here and there. Its eyes are normally closed. Also a small Pokémon, 0,9 m tall and weighs 19,5 kg, but becomes bigger once it evolves. Its Evulotions are [in order] Kadabra, Alakazam and Mega Alakazam. Abra is a Pokémon I often use as backup when playing the games, as it is does become much stronger the more you evolve it. A plus is that, despite it being immune to none, it's also most often not Weak; Abra is only weak against Ghost, Dark and Bug, which are not the most common Types other players/NPCs use. I...
